Testimonial
I play a part in building a bright future that can weather any storm.
Many times, the safety of entire communities is influenced by our work. On one project in Florida, I worked with a client to make sure a critical 911 communications facility would be operable during and after a Category 5 hurricane. Advising them on things like how to protect vital generator systems and helping them make costeffective design decisions, I had a hand in building something truly substantial. In the end, our client was happy to have a partner that understood and worked with them to meet their unique needs.

FM helps clients maintain continuity in their business operations by drawing upon state-of-the-art loss-prevention engineering and research; risk management skills and support services; tailored risk transfer capabilities; and superior financial strength. To do so, we rely on a dynamic, culturally diverse group of employees, working in more than 100 countries, in a variety of challenging roles.
When you join our London Operations team as a Consultant Chemical Risk Engineer, you can use your Chemical engineering background to help clients mitigate potential disaster—saving property, businesses, and lives.
Our diverse, multicultural team of engineers do not spend their days behind a desk. They are out at client locations, working independently at some of the largest industrial facilities in the world to help prevent losses. You will be trained to become a skilled consultant, providing guidance to our clients on a range of engineering and environmental risk topics, whilst influencing core business decisions in collaboration with our technical underwriting department.
It’s a flexible, hands-on job requiring high energy, self-motivation and creativity.
Your career will start with a structured training programme including self-study and online training, trailing peers in the field, classroom learning at our US-based learning centre and mentoring. You will soon find yourself working independently, travelling to client facilities in the UK and overseas to help solve complicated technical issues and review risk improvement projects.
Successful candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in an industrial Chemical engineering role.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Good analytical, organisational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Efficient time management with the ability to work with minimal direction.
- Proven technical aptitude including a diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
- Valid driver licence for use in the UK.
- Proficient in MS Office products.
- The permanent rights to live and work in the UK.
During the first twelve months of this flexible role, the successful candidate will be required to frequently attend our Maidenhead office. However, once training is completed there is the ability to primarily work from home (subject to location). Candidates should be willing to travel extensively, primarily within the UK, but with international travel and training assignments.
In return, you will receive a competitive benefits package which includes:
- Company car or car cash allowance.
- Final Salary Pension Scheme.
- Private medical insurance.
- Incentive Plan.
- Fitness Reimbursement Plan.
- 2 Global Well-being days per annum.
- Annual Volunteer Day.
- Emotional well-being and mental health assistance programme.
