Provide technical support in the performance of Research and Approvals tests conducted at the FM Research Campus, primarily in the Large and Small Burn Laboratories, under the direction of the General Foreman. Day-to-day activities includes test setup, instrumentation and equipment troubleshooting as well as firefighting and cleanup efforts.
High School/Trade School or Military specialist training with 3 years general mechanical or electrical experience.
1 year laboratory experience preferred.
Experience with or knowledge of product assembly, equipment repair, use of hand and power tools, welding/fabrication, use of instrumentation and sensors and computer literacy.
Must be able to commute to the FM Research Campus in West Glocester, RI.
Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job (applies to all Labs, LBL, SBL, Remote Test Site, Earthquake Lab, and Campus Work Areas) including:
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to work at heights
Ability to operate vehicles, lift trucks, fork trucks, other vehicles
Must be able to work while wearing full Firefighter’s Turnout gear with SCBA for an extended period of time in a wet and smoky environment
Must be able to obtain certification for using a personal respirator and work while wearing one for an extended period of time in a wet and smoky environment
Must not be claustrophobic and be able to work in tight and cramped spaces
Must have a current US Driver’s License
Must be able to communicate effectively in English
Must be able to work while wearing a Fall Protection Harness
Candidate must have the ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and the ability to understand and follow English instructions.
