FM’s Specialty Industries portfolio — Mining, Molten Materials, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, Semiconductor, and Digital — is seeking a highly skilled Construction Property Insurance Specialist to lead global strategy for construction exposures. This is your chance to influence underwriting requirements, guide portfolio decisions, and serve as a key voice in shaping our approach to emerging construction risks.

What You’ll Do

Be the Construction Insurance Expert. Lead the Strategy.

As a Construction Property Insurance Specialist, you will own the construction subject area. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing portfolio analyses, pricing strategies, and capacity/line-setting guidance for construction property insurance.
  • Driving the evolution of construction underwriting requirements that protect profitability and support growth.
  • Anticipating and adapting to emerging risks unique to construction, such as supply chain disruptions, project delays, evolving building technologies, and regulatory changes.

Collaborate & Innovate

You’ll work closely with:

  • Operations underwriters
  • Principal engineers
  • Corporate staff across the organization

Together, you’ll research, innovate, and refine underwriting practices — always seeking opportunities to improve consistency, clarity, and business impact.

Lead & Support the Field

You’ll provide thoughtful leadership to operations underwriters by:

  • Ensuring construction underwriting requirements are understood and appropriately applied
  • Offering guidance on complex or unique construction opportunities
  • Supporting consistent, strategic underwriting judgment worldwide

Contribute Beyond the Desk

Your impact extends beyond analysis:

  • Conduct 2–3 operations underwriting audits per year
  • Deliver underwriting training to teams across the company, emphasizing construction risk and best practices
  • Support new product and coverage development for construction
  • Continuously improve underwriting processes and systems

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of property insurance underwriting and/or engineering experience, with a strong focus large, complex construction risks
  • Demonstrated authority to underwrite high-value construction projects (builders risk, wrap-up, or similar)
  • In-depth knowledge of construction project lifecycles, risk drivers, and mitigation strategies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; advanced Excel skills
  • Broad knowledge of property insurance, underwriting techniques, and financial analysis
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — able to teach, persuade, and clearly communicate complex insight
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or CRIS are a plus

This role can be based in any FM office located in the United States or London.

The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
