We have an exciting opportunity for an Account Manager (Internal Job Title) to join our team in Sydney. This is a full-time, permanent, in-office role supporting our operations across Australia and New Zealand.

In this role, you’ll serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned clients and play a strategic leadership role within FM. You’ll develop and execute tailored client strategies to maintain a profitable book of business, while also leading the underwriting of large commercial property insurance programs for some of the region’s most prominent organisations.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring premium retention by fostering positive client and broker relationships, and providing professional advice and consultation on property insurance and risk management;
  • Providing strategic leadership in managing client accounts, ensuring the client remains the focal point;
  • Analysing account and location risks to inform risk selection, capacity deployment, and policy terms and conditions within FM’s underwriting framework;
  • Preparing insurance policies to ensure terms, conditions and wording accurately reflects a mutual understanding of intent of coverage;
  • Establishing and maintaining equitable policy terms and conditions;
  • Understanding value declarations and incorporating risk features, policy terms and special coverages into pricing models;
  • Continuing professional development to stay current with FM’s underwriting practices, standards, and insurance industry developments;
  • Identifying opportunities to improve profitability through creative solutions;
  • Supporting new business process by ensuring sustainable strategies for underwriting, risk quality and client engagement;
  • Collaborating with account engineers on risk improvement plans
  • Maintaining strong relationships across FM to lead the broader team in valuable client programs

Qualifications, skills and experience:

Our successful candidate will be well-positioned to step straight into this executive-client facing role, quickly developing knowledge of the FM business model and our value proposition. Varying levels of qualification, experience and skills will be considered, outside of those listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification;
  • Minimum 5 years property insurance experience, with client-facing experience highly regarded;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the property insurance landscape in Australia and New Zealand, including market trends, and broker networks
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, empathy and integrity, with a track record of nurturing sustainable relationships with clients;
  • Demonstrated ability in organisation, problem-solving, sales and negotiation, leadership and team building;
  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail;
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines;
  • Polished and professional communication (written and verbal);
  • A track record of being able to learn new technology and technical concepts, with the ability to apply this knowledge successfully.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in engineering or technical risk assessment is desired but not essential
