Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Accounts Payable, this position supports both the day-to-day accounts payable operational functions as well as reporting and analysis of varying complexities. This position regularly provides insights and support to the accounts payable department’s stakeholder constituency, demonstrating a need for strong analytical/problem-solving skills and effective communication. As this role regularly supports a wide variety of customers, interpersonal and customer service skills are critical. Moreover, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail is critical.

Schedule & Location:

This is a full-time office-based position in Johnston, RI. Four days per week of work are required on-site, with flexibility for one remote day per week. Core on-site workdays are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Employees may choose to work remotely either Tuesday or Friday, weekly. 


  • Responsible for key accounts payable processes and controls (e.g., monthly balance sheet account reconciliation preparation/review, etc.)
  • Ownership of expenditure approval workflow maintenance
  • Review and approve vendor additions/changes and vouchers prior to payment ensuring compliance with company policies and established internal controls
  • Conduct periodic monitoring to ensure that accounts payable operations are compliant with departmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of audit deliverables for both external and internal audits
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and year-end reporting requirements (i.e., sales and use tax treatment, FM’s capitalization policy, year-end financial reporting support, annual 1099/1042 reporting, etc.)
  • Action inquiries and informational requests of varying complexity originating from internal stakeholders and vendors
  • Participate as subject matter expert on cross-functional project teams (i.e., system upgrades/integrations, process enhancements, etc.)
  • Provide support and strategic insight to the Controllers and Financial Planning & Analysis groups relative to financial reporting and budgeting questions
  • Lead departmental projects and initiatives of varying complexity, as assigned
  • Support maintenance and reporting of fixed assets

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related commensurate work experience

Highly Preferred Education:

  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA)

Required Work Experience:

  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards

Highly Preferred Work Experience:

  • Insurance industry experience highly preferred
  • Professional work experience as an Accountant in a mid-to-large corporate environment

Required Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Sound understanding of accounts payable and general ledger transaction flow
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong ownership and follow-through skills

Highly Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft

The hiring range for this position is $90,720-$130,400 annually. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
