This position performs complex routine and non-routine accounting work including compilation, consolidation, or analysis of financial statements to support management decision making. As new regulatory requirements or organizational issues arise, this position conducts analysis on the new rules or requirements and identifies the effects on accounting policies, practices and procedures.
Schedule & Location
This position is an exempt, full-time office-based position working 5 days each week Monday-Friday in Johnston, RI. This position may be eligible for one remote day each week on Tuesday or Friday, based on business needs.
- Prepares moderately complex reports on a timely basis, including monthly GAAP and/or statutory requirements to support understanding and reporting of the company’s core financial results.
- Prepares appropriate commentary or explanations relating to issues/information of particular interest. Uses judgment to determine which issues/information warrant closer attention. Conducts investigations of accounts, if needed.
- Develops solutions to complex problems which require regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Work is performed without appreciable direction.
- Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would result in expenditure of large amounts of company resources.
- Conducts complex analysis of financial data/systems/processes and prepares reports and supporting financial information to respond to accounting management’s information needs, new regulatory requirements or business issues as they arise.
- Determines the best approach and methodology, collects data, conducts complex analyses, and interprets the results to assess the impact on the organization, policies, processes or procedures to maintain compliance or improve operating efficiency or effectiveness.
- Incorporates new technology to provide on-going, sustainable information and analysis support to the business as applicable.
- Contributes to internal training in areas of subject matter expertise such as interpretation of regulations or utilization of financial systems to improve the technical skills of other accounting staff.
- Participates in accounting component of projects to develop or enhance financial systems, processes and protocols; may include conducting research on regulatory changes or assessing financial processes to identify opportunities for improvement; involves developing an understanding of new situations or regulations and identifying opportunities for integration with existing systems, processes or protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Quarterly and Annual statutory reporting and related processes in conformance with NAIC statutory accounting requirements.
- Continual maintenance and monitoring of the statutory compliance checklist for required filings in conformance with state statutory filing requirements.
- Monthly analysis of foreign exchange transactions with a solid understanding of foreign exchange accounting.
- Monthly recording of Company lease activity and preparation of the year-end lease disclosure.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting
- Master’s degree and/or professional certification (CPA, CMA) preferred
Required Work Experience
- 8+ years’ experience in general accounting/financial reporting
Highly Preferred Work Experience
- 1+ years’ public accounting experience
- Experience in the insurance industry a plus!

The annual salary for this position is $90,720 to $130,400 and will be determined based on individual qualifications.
